Teaching philosophy:

I offer a holistic teaching approach that benefits students beyond the scope of music. I aim to foster in my students a deep love and understanding of music, the technical mastery necessary to perform at the highest level, and the tools to lead a happy and healthy musical lifestyle. Whether you’re new to the oboe, an experienced musician looking to refine your craft, or someone hoping to learn the secrets of making beautifully balanced reeds, lessons with me are tailored to enhance students’ individual strengths and to strengthen their weaknesses.

After dealing with a wrist injury from playing the English horn, I was compelled to learn to teach students to avoid injuries so their music making could be as joyful, healthy, and stress-free as possible. My doctoral work at the University of Toronto centers around developing teaching techniques that can help oboe students avoid injury, and I build these research-based techniques into my everyday teaching.
